3/ Flaxseed
Researchers from
Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland, USA reported
that in a six-month period-animal model, adding flaxseed meal to
their diet may help lower triglycerides and buildup of fats in the
liver, both risk factors for heart disease and diabetes.
Furthermore, flaxseed meal may decrease blood levels of
triglycerides and fat deposition in the liver. The team concluded
that flaxseed meal supplementation may provide a new therapeutic
strategy to reduce hypertriglyceridemia and fatty liver. Flaxseed is
one of the
best cholesterol control supplements.
4/ Garlic
Garlic and cholesterol are the two words that have been used
together extensively. It helps
raise HDL cholesterol (beneficial) to improve the ratio of
healthful high-density lipoproteins cholesterol to LDL (harmful)
cholesterol (cholesterol
hdl ldl ratio). Garlic appears to directly inhibit production of
cholesterol by the liver and to enhance the excretion of cholesterol
5/ Psyllium
Studies have shown that
when it is combined with a low fat diet, it can also help to lower
LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) in the blood. TheUS Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) indicates that intake of at least 3 to 12 grams
of fiber can reduce LDL cholesterol as well as maintain
recommended cholesterol levels.
6/ Guggul
Guggul contains a mixture of lipid steroids called guggulipid that
have shown cholesterol-lowering effect and help maintaining
normal ranges of cholesterol levels. Other studies have shown
that standardized extracts of guggulipid (guggulsterones) not only
lower levels of cholesterol and other blood fats but also
raise good cholesterol (HDL cholesterols).
Guggul, artichoke,
garlic, flaxseed and phystosterols are featured in
Natural Assets'
CholestMIN
(a proprietary cholesterol complex).

Article Extracted from
the Los Angeles Times May 6, 2002. "Ancient Folk Remedy Control
Cholesterol". Twenty patients of Hyperlipidemia were administered
4.5 g. of purified gum Guggul in two divided doses daily for 16
weeks. Serum cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels decreased at
the end of the 4th to 8th weeks. HDL cholesterol showed a gradual
increase while HDL and LDL cholesterol showed significant decrease
at all time points.

Scientists have been
studying the Hypolipidemic activity of Guggul for over 20 years.
Guggul proved extremely effective in regulating cholesterol,
triglycerides, and phospholipids in both types of research. Extracts
of Guggul have been shown to lower the serum cholesterol level in
chicks, and have shown similar effects in rabbits, rats and domestic
pigs)
